The specific objective of Podbielski Contemporary is to promote contemporary photography in its various forms. During its ten years of existence, it has acquired worldwide recognition among collectors, colleagues and institutions. The emphasis of its program is to represent a wide range of artists, who approach the geopolitics of the Balkans, the Middle East, Italy, Germany and the New Territories from a cross-cultural and artistic perspective.
Pierre André Podbielski founded Podbielski Contemporary in January 2011 in Berlin Mitte. The opening show “Moving Worlds” featured Yael Bartana, Adrian Paci, Paola Yacoub, Lidwien van de Ven and Danica Dakic and was introduced by an essay by Griselda Pollock.
In 2018, Podbielski Contemporary moved to Milan, his hometown. The gallery seeks to promote exhibitions, encourage collaborations with colleagues, organize and produce exhibitions with public institutions and introduce its artists to private and museum collections. Its founder firmly believes that a gallery, in addition to representing artists and promoting their works in an optimal way, should also serve as a hub for the exchange of ideas on art and culture, especially for young people. researchers and collectors.
More recently, in its new location, due to the difficulties and travel restrictions of 2020/21, Podbielski Contemporary has strengthened its focus by promoting established Italian artists, but also by launching promising new talents, presented in our recent group exhibitions such as ‘Pleasure Jardin’ and ‘Ore Sospese. Un diario italiano and Oltre lo Sguardo’.
While consolidating 4-5 exhibitions per year, Podbielski Contemporary participates in qualified art fairs since its initial participation in The Hours in Turin (2011), Photo Basel, MIA photo fair, Artefiera Bologna, Unseen, Artissima, Photo London , Artgeneve at Paris Photo (2021).
