Build an Outdoor Reading Oasis

Spring has been mild in California this year. Windy days, abundant sunshine and 75 degree weather make me want to spend more time outdoors to enjoy it all. Although I have created many indoor reading nooks, I have yet to invest in a beautiful outdoor reading oasis that will invite me (and other bookworms) to spend more time outside.

Here, I attempted to create an attractive outdoor space for people who want a comfortable place outside to do their favorite thing in the world: read. I think a sense of comfort is key, so some privacy screens or partitions will help achieve this. An outdoor rug is also imperative: it will do triple duty if it can withstand the elements, lend softness to a concrete or wood patio, and visually bring a group of furniture together. Simple furniture is important, of course, for comfortable lounging and for a place to store your books and drinks. And don’t overlook the shadow factor. We all know that once we start with books, we can read for hours. No bad sunburn here!

Read on for some of Book Riot’s suggestions on building an outdoor reading oasis. And remember when shopping for your outdoor oasis, always choose materials that are suitable for the outdoors and weather resistant to make it last for years.
